Tron

Tron, one of the newer movies available in theatres is hitting quite good. It features a soundtrack done by Daft Punk, and looks great in 3D! I would highly recommend this movie, I give it a 5/5. The main story is about a father and a son who both eventually end up on the “grid”. The grid is basically a place where data and programs are stored and run. The main goal for the characters is to escape the grid a task they find harder than it looks.

Trips on Christmas Break

Well everyone knows that Christmas is a very traditional day, and some families are not all together because they are in another country or state, so lots of people decide to go and visit. So we went and talked to a few people and asked them if they went on any trips for Christmas and here is what some people had to say.
-Brianna C.: We Spend time with my family.
-Linda C.: I went to Mexico, we did lots of stuff & I rode on a horse.
-Mr. Knapp: My wife and I went to Spain & 1 went to a museum, old churches, Dali’s house, and lots more.
-Timothy: Went to Palmdale.
-Yullissa: I went to Mexico and had a great time with my family.

StarCraft II

Starcraft 2 is a real-time strategy game on the PC. For more than over a decade of waiting since its predecessor, Starcraft 1 was released; many critics (including me) believe that Starcraft 2 has successfully lived up to the hype in flashing colors, literally. Everyone will notice the high detailed graphics as well as the nice game user interface. The objective of this game is simple, to create your own base and destroy the enemy’s base. Since the game offers a lot of variety, it allows the player to have fun based on his/her preferences. While beginners may struggle playing, there are several in-game tutorials that would be a huge help. The people that you will play online usually have good sportsmanship saying things like “Good luck” and “Have fun”.

While there are a lot of pros, there are also some cons. The game itself costs $60 and you will get a bulky box that contains the CD. Since this is on the internet, you may run into rude people as they say mean things. I wouldn’t recommend Starcraft 2 to people who cannot multitask as this is the most vital skill in games like this. In addition, the game requires you to have a fast computer to run on. I recommend Starcraft 2 to people who want to destroy buildings, people, aliens, bugs, practically everything. People who can strategize very well in battles/wars will be skilled in this game. So good luck, have fun!

Tips for 2011

Here are some tips for next year they will be told into two sections you can do/try it (Do’s) or you should not do (Don’ts). Do’s, try to stay quiet in class if someone’s trying to talking to you tell them “talk to me later at lunch, nutrition, or after school,” if they don’t stop, don’t talk to them then they’ll stop talking. Don’ts, talk back to him/her then you’ll get a warning or something else depending on how a teacher tolerates talking. Do’s, try to not get into fights you can get hurt and maybe get expelled/suspended from the school, if you think someone is trying to hit you go to an adult like Mr. Summer. Don’ts fight back because you can get hurt and maybe get expelled/suspended from the school. Do’s if your being bullied tell an adult.

Lost Hero

If you are a fan of Greek gods, ancient monsters, action, adventure, and the Percy Jackson series written by Rick Riordan, then you should check out the new sequel to the series, “The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero”. It is about three demigods, Jason, Leo, and Piper. It also includes some characters from the Percy Jackson series. The story starts out by saying how Jason finds himself on a bus full of kids he doesn’t know and he does not know why he’s there. He meets Piper and Leo on the bus who says they know him but he doesn’t know them. Further into the story, they figure out who is Jason’s parent but I won’t spoil that. This story is a very good book and really interesting especially if you’re a fan of the Percy Jackson series. If you get the chance, you should either buy this or at least get the chance to read this, you will really enjoy it.

CST Review

What are the CST’s? The CST’s are tests we take near the end of the school year at in May. It shows what the child has learned through out the school year. The test shows what classes you need to retake and the classes you advance in. I interviewed Mr. G about the CST’s. This is what he had to say, “ It’s a chance for kids to show what they’ve learned in the school year and see if your grades went higher or lower,” says Mr. G. The CST’s matter a lot and are more important than your previous report cards. The tests show what you’ve learned and see if the teachers did a good job in teaching you. The CST covers English, Math, History, and Science and good luck.

Culmination Requirements

Culmination is a ceremony that commemorates the end of middle school. We asked Ms.Scheel what the 8th grade requirements are to participate in culmination. She said that 8th graders must get a C average or better. There must be no F’s in the classes or report cards. Also, they must have good behavior in classes. If, you have good grades, you have to continue keeping them up because they won’t just stay like that, they might go down. If, you want to raise up your grades, you could do some extra credit and study for tests so you could get a good grade. That was her response to the questions we asked Mrs. Scheel.

Talent Show

I interviewed Ms. Jones and asked her about the talent show, she said that the talent show is an event where students and teachers can show off their talents. There will be a dance troop, rock group, singers, drummers, Instrumentalists, and a DJ. It will be held some time in March, at 6 pm. Tickets will be $2 each and you can get them in Room 190, before and after school.

2012

Some people say that the world will end in 2012, others say it won’t. 2012 is apparently the year the earth is going to end according to a Mayan calendar. Many believe the world will end in 2012 and have created web sites supporting their belief. We wanted to know if some of the students believe the world will end in 2012. We have asked a total of 34 students and only 12 students believe the world will end in 2012 and 22 students do not believe the world will end in 2012. In my opinion, I don’t think the world will end in 2012 but hey, that’s my opinion, do you think the world will end in 2012?

Martin Luther King Jr.

Fellow people, we gather here today to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We celebrate this holiday to honor a leader named Martin Luther King Jr. He was born on January 15, 1929 and lived until 1968. During his time, African-Americans faced discrimination and were treated with cruelty. King led a lot of protests without any violence, but violence occurred in them. On September of 1963, King addressed the “I Have A Dream” speech at Lincoln Memorial. On April 4, 1968, he was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel. We celebrate this holiday on January 17, two days after his birth date. That’s why we have this holiday to honor a courageous leader.
